East Lansing, Mich. – No. 20 Michigan State put its first result in the win column on Thursday night, delivering a 3-0 victory over NC State at DeMartin Stadium. MSU improves to 1-0-2, while the Wolfpack is 0-2-1.
With head coach Jeff Hosler stressing the importance of a strong start, the Spartans got on the board before the game was three minutes old on an excellent individual play by junior Kennedy Bell. She applied enough pressure to block a goal kick and redirected it into the back of the net for her second goal of the season. Classmate Kayla Briggs finished an Adelle Francis pass to make it a 2-0 game before the intermission, and freshman Ava Lutke put the icing on the cake by heading home a corner kick in the second half.
MSU earned its second consecutive shutout behind five saves from freshman keeper Noelle Henning. MSU has not allowed a goal since the third minute of the season opener at Colorado.
