Kindel, Powell Headed to Canada U17 Camp

 East Lansing, Mich. -- Freshmen standouts Lacey Kindel (Coquitlam, British Columbia) and Samantha Powell (Winnipeg, Manitoba) are among the 24 selections to Canada's U17 National Camp (CANW17), which will be held next week (Aug. 10-19) in Atlanta, Georgia.Â

Kindel and Powell are both longstanding participants in youth events with Team Canada, teaming up to help Team Canada to a third-place finish at the 2024 U15 CONCACAF championship. Kindel most recently played in the FIFA U17 Qualifiers and World Cup in Morocco last October 2025, where Canada qualified for the World Cup with a trip to the quarterfinals.  Powell earned a callup to the Canadian Women's National U17 squad for the Four Nations Cup in 2025. They are among the three selections announced to the U17 team who are currently on a US college roster.Â

Canada (CANW17) will have three games in the squad's final international camp before the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Morocco 2026™ later this year. Canada will open against Chile on Tuesday Aug. 13 (8pm ET), before facing Mexico on Sunday, August 16 (5 pm ET) and Team USA on Wednesday, Aug 19 (5 pm).  All three matches will be played at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Atlanta.

The FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Morocco 2026™ will take place from October 17 to November 6. A total of 24 nations from six confederations will be competing for the world title. Canada will compete in Group C, opening its World Cup campaign against Brazil on October 18. Other group C games will come against Norway (October 21) and Ghana (October 24.)
The pair will miss MSU's first two non-conference games of the season. The Spartans officially open the 2026 slate next Wednesday (Aug. 13) against Xavier at DeMartin Stadium at 7:30 pm. Â
