Andrew Nolan Punches Ticket with School Record in NCAA East First Round Friday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Andrew Nolan was the first Spartan to punch a ticket to the NCAA Championships at the NCAA East First Round at Hodges Stadium on Friday.
Moving up several places in the final lap, Nolan punched the Spartans' first ticket to the NCAA Championships in the 3000m steeplechase. Nolan finished fourth in his heat. He would have to wait for the remaining two heats, but eventually finished eighth overall with a school-record time of 8:37.83. He broke his own school record of 8:40.95 at the Virginia Challenge on April 18. This will be Nolan's first trip to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, only previously competing in the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Tyler Pritchett finished his season 32nd in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:06.10.
In MSU's final event of the night, Riley Hough was in action in the 5000m. He ran a great race, but came up just short of punching his ticket to Eugene. Running in the second heat, Hough finished with a time of 14:10.19. He was ninth in the heat and 14th overall.
The day started earlier as the women's shot put was moved to 10 a.m. after weather delays on Thursday. Jessica Stieb was the highest finished Spartan, taking 27th place. She hit 15.43m on her second attempt. Rylan Finstrom was 35th with a best throw of 14.97m.
The Michigan State men started the day with the discus with Dalton DeBeau. He finished 21st with a throw of 53.55m on his second attempt.
In the high jump, Brady Schultz started strong, clearing the opening height of 2.05m on his second attempt. Schultz was not able to clear 2.10m and finished 37th overall.
In the final day of competition, the Spartan women will have four athletes in action. Valadian Pallett starts the action in the discus at 1 p.m. Kate Stewart-Barnett and Sophia Lucki will compete in the 3000m steeplechase at 5:40 p.m. Stewart-Barnett, the 2025 Big Ten Champion, is seeded third in the event with a time of 9:36.96. Rachel Forsyth will end the action for Michigan State in the 5000m at 8:10 p.m.
