School Record and Podium Finishes Highlight Day One of B1G Indoor Track & Field Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Michigan State distance medley relay squads took center stage in Thursday's action at the Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships at Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion in Indianapolis.
In the women's distance medley relay, the team of Rachel Forsyth (1200m), Lexy Wilson (400m), Sarah Forsyth (800m) and Olivia Millen (1600m) used a season best to finish eighth. The Spartans crossed the line in 11:03.03.
To end the first night, the men's DMR squad put the Spartan men on the scoreboard. Michigan State secured a point with an eighth-place finish. The team of Timothy Cherry (1200m), Noah Sage (400m), Matthew Schroff (800m) and Andrew Nolan (1600m) finished with a time of 9:43.69.
Dylan Terryberry put himself in contention to reach the podium on the first day of the heptathlon. After four events, Terryberry stands in seventh place with 3,011 points. He started the day with a personal best in the 60m. He finished fifth with a time of 7.05 for 865 points. In the long jump, he reached 6.92m on his final attempt to finish ninth and earn 795 points. He also finished ninth in the shot put (12.23m) for 620 points. He rounded out the day with a personal-best high jump (1.92m). He finished fifth to capture 731 points.
In the prelims of the men's 600m, Alexander Yon broke the school record. Yon's time of 1:18.63 broke Alex Wiater's record set in 2017 (1:18.83). He would not advance to the final on Saturday.
In the women's pentathlon, Tess Roman finished 11th with 3,749 points.
Sophia Lucki was the top finisher in the women's 5000m, crossing the line in 16:32.17 to take 20th. Allison Cornell was 21st with a personal-best time of 16:33.50.
Friday's action will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the heptathlon 60m hurdles. Also at 11:30 a.m., Elle Adrian will be in action in the women's weight throw. The field events will take center stage on Friday with both the men's and women's weight throws, both long jumps and the women's high jump. The day will end with Logan Allen in the prelims of the men's 60m hurdles.
