MSU enters the B1G Tournament ranked No. 65 in the ITA Team Rankings, which were announced on Tuesday.
Scouting USC
While USC is seeded at No. 6, the Trojans have had a strong season, immediately declaring themselves as a dominant force in Big Ten Conference women's tennis as one of the league's newcomers.
With the conclusion of the spring dual match season, the Trojans slated a 15-6 overall record, and a 9-4 Big Ten Conference record.
USC was able to defeat the powerhouses of UCLA, Washington and Wisconsin, who have all been highly ranked throughout the season and are competing as higher seeds in the B1G Tournament.
Three singles players from the university are ranked, with Emma Charney coming in at No. 58, Grace Piper at No. 71 and Imogen Haddad at No. 103.
In doubles pairings, the Lily Fairclough/Grace Piper pairing slotted themselves at No. 10.
Overall, the team is ranked No. 17 by ITA, showing promise going into the Big Ten Tournament.
Combating the Competition
The Spartans have their work cut out for themselves, with the Big Ten being a highly competitive women's tennis force, with fourteen Big Ten teams being in the rankings.
This is the second most of any conference, falling just behind the Atlantic Coast Conference, where sixteen teams slotted throughout the rankings.
If the Spartans move past the first round, they will compete against the No. 3 seeded Washington Huskies on April 24 at 9 p.m. EST/ 6 p.m. PST in Ojai, Calif.
