MSU Women’s Tennis Opens B1G Action At Iowa And Nebraska

Spartans take 8-3 record in tow for weekend road trip.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women's tennis opens Big Ten Conference play with two matches on the road, opening at Iowa City, Iowa to face No. 52 Iowa on Friday, Mar. 7 and then tangling with No. 44 Nebraska on Sunday, Mar. 9 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Friday's match at Iowa is slated for a 6 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. CT start, while Sunday's match at Nebraska is at 1 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. CT.

The Spartans head into conference action with a record of 8-3, just recently falling at No. 57 Columbia in a close matchup of 2-4.
Prior to the match against Columbia, the Green & White held their longest win-streak since the 2004-05 season, winning eight dual matches in a row.
With Iowa and Nebraska currently ranked in ITA Standings, with Iowa ranked at No. 52 and Nebraska at No. 44, the Spartans have their work cut out for them in their third-straight match against a ranked opponent.
Series History vs. Iowa
This is not nearly the first meeting between the Hawkeyes and the Spartans, with the first matchup spanning back to the 2002-03 season.
The Green & White have struggled in the past against this Big Ten foe, holding a record of 5-18 over 23 years.
Iowa currently holds a five-match win-streak against Michigan State, with the last time MSU won being during the 2018-19 season in East Lansing.
Looking forward, the Spartans hope to break this losing streak against the Hawkeyes, and earn their first conference win of the season.

The Hawkeyes currently hold a record of 6-3, with two out of three losses acquired on the road, earning them an ITA standing of No. 52.
Iowa holds a 3-1 record at home, along with a 3-1 record on the road and 0-1 in neutral site territory action.
One player on Iowa is currently ranked at No. 84, junior Tereza Dejnozkova, who holds a 12-6 record in overall singles matches, going 6-2 during the current spring season.
Currently, none of Iowa's doubles pairings are ranked.

The first match-up between the Spartans and the Huskers goes back to the 2011-12 season, when Nebraska first joined the Big Ten Conference.
Michigan State currently holds a 6-5 record against Nebraska, with three of the five losses occurring within the past three seasons. Prior to these losses, the Spartans held a 6-2 record against the Huskers.
The Green & White have another difficult matchup ahead of them, hoping to earn their first win against Nebraska in four seasons.

Nebraska currently holds a 10-1 record, earning them a ranking of No. 44 in ITA standings.
The only team that has been able to triumph over the Huskers has been No. 25 ranked Baylor, where Nebraska traveled to Waco, Texas and lost in a battle of 2-5.
The Huskers host No. 4 Michigan in their Big Ten opener just two days before hosting Michigan State in their home territory.
Currently, no singles player or doubles duo are ranked by ITA.
