
Distance Squads Lead Spartans to Successful Split Weekend

EAST LANSING, Mich. - With the team split between the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Indiana and the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky, the Spartan track & field team found success on both the track and on the field this weekend.
Friday | Meyo Invitational
At the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, most of the Spartans in action were distance runners.
In the women's distance medley relay, the team of Kate Stewart-Barnett, Shae Harbaugh, Abbey Carvey and Olivia Millen finished second with a time of 11:10.84. In the men's DMR, Luke Perelli, Alex Yon, Tim Cherry and Brady McArdle took first, crossing the line in 9:50.04.
In the men's 5000m, Andrew Lane finished with a time just off his career best. Lane finished first with a time of 14:05.09. Tyler Pritchett was ninth with a time of 14:16.28. In the women's 5000m, the top Spartan finisher was Sophia Lucki. She finished seventh overall with a personal-best time of 16:33.43.
Saturday | Meyo Invitational
The Spartans started the day off right with the 3000m. MSU had a pair of PRs from Parker Lambers (8:07.24) and Jack Pennewell (8:08.59), to finish fifth and eighth, respectively. In the women's 3000m, Allison Chimelewski had a new personal best with a time of 10:00.33 to finish 15th.
In the men's 400m, Alex Yon, who had success in the DMR on Friday, finished ninth with a time of 49.25.
Olivia Millen continued a strong meet with an eighth-place finish in the women's 800m open. She crossed the line with a personal-best time of 2:11.97. Sydnee Sinn was 22nd with a time of 2:16.21.
Michigan State was dominate in the women's mile final. All-American Rachel Forsyth finished second behind Notre Dame's Sophie Novak. Forsyth set a new PR with a time of 4:34.02. Kate Stewart-Barnett crushed her previous PR of 4:37.53 set at last year's Big Ten Indoor Championship. She finished third with a time of 4:36.30.
In the open mile, Sarah Forsyth finished second with a personal-best time of 4:43.45, while Kaitlyn Hynes also had a PR, crossing with a time of 4:44.56. Taylor Ewert was fourth also collecting a personal best (4:44.94).
Riley Hough took fourth in the men's mile final (4:02.72), while Luke Perelli finished seventh (4:04.78) for a new personal best.
In the men's open mile, Timothy Cherry finished first with a new PR time of 4:02.82. Brady McArdle was ninth (4:08.70). Patrick Byrnes (4:09.97) and Kyle Eberhard (4:13.47) both had PRs in the race.
Friday | PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational
Leila Barmore was fourth in the pentathlon with 3,674 points, while Avery Budz finished seventh in the pentathlon with 3,395 points. Barmore started the day strong with a second-place finish in the 60m hurdles with a time 8.81, while Budz was eighth with a time of 9.25, which was a season best. In the shot put, Budz set the PR to finish sixth (10.03m), while Barmore ended 11th (9.19m).
Barmore excelled in the pentathlon long jump with a personal best 5.93m to take second. Budz also set a personal best in the long jump (5.06m) to finish eighth. Budz was exceptional in the 800m, crossing the line in 2:25.34 for second place. Barmore set another PR in the 800m (2:37.59).
Carter Bissell set a new personal best in the long jump 7.04m en route to a second-place finish. Jalen Nelson ended eighth (6.70m).

Sean Mullen made his collegiate debut in the heptathlon, finishing fifth with 4,660 points. He was the fourth-best collegiate performer. He had a season best in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.69 to finish fifth. He had a his best showing in the pole vault with a best vault of 4.55m to finish third.
Coming off her strong showing in the pentathlon on Friday, Barmore finished fifth in the triple jump on Saturday (12.24m). In the women's pole vault, Sophia Mettes finished fourth (4.07m).
