Spartan Men’s Tennis Finishes Weekend at ITA Sectionals

Michigan State battles conference and national talent ahead of NCAA Championships
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Spartan Men's Tennis players competed at the ITA Sectionals tournament this past weekend, Nov. 6-8, in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
This competition was located at the Varsity Tennis Center, hosted by the University of Michigan.
Junior Taym Alazmeh took to the court for both doubles and singles action. In singles action, Alazmeh began by taking on No. 26-ranked Loren Byers from Ohio State. After a tough battle, Alazmeh fell to Byers 7-6, 6-2 before earning a default win over No. 59-ranked Zsombor Velcz. Alazmeh then took on another Buckeye, Bryce Nakashima, but fell in a close 6-3, 6-4 match.
In doubles play, Alazmeh teamed up with Spartan sophomore Danial Rakhmatullayev. In the round of 16, the Spartan duo fought hard against Notre Dame's Peter Nad and Luis Llorens Saracho, but fell 6-4, 6-2. The pair then fell to Ohio State's Alexander Bernard and Alex Okonkwo due to injury.
Michigan State now turns its focus to the NCAA Individual Championships, held Nov. 18–23 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, to close out the fall season.
