MSU Women’s Tennis to Compete in ITA Regionals

Six Spartans set to compete for a ticket to the NCAA Individual Championships.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women's tennis ventures to Champaign, Illinois to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships, Thursday-Tuesday, Oct. 16-21.
MSU will be joining 19 other schools in the single-elimination tournament. Action from Atkins Tennis Center will feature a qualifying and main draw for the singles tournament and a main draw for doubles.
The Regional Championships serve as a gateway to compete in the NCAA Individual Championships. The ITA hosts 12 regional matches, where two singles finalists and the doubles champion from each region will earn themselves a ticket to NCAA Individual Championships.
MSU is sending six Spartans to compete in the action, including sophomore Ellie Blackford, sophomore Amara Brahmbhatt, senior Sarah Fazlagic, sophomore Nina Plihal, senior Issey Purser and redshirt-junior Hanna Tsitavets.
Blackford, Brahmbhatt, Plihal, Purser and Tsitiavets are set to represent the Green & White in the main draw of singles play.
Doubles pairings of Blackford/Plihal, Brahmbhatt/Tsitavets and Fazlagic/Purser are to compete in the women's open doubles draw.
Illinois hosts the following schools for the weekend: Bowling Green, Bradley, Chicago State, DePaul, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Illinois State, Marquette, Michigan, Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Southern Illinois, University of Illinois Chicago, Valparaiso, Western Michigan, Wisconsin
