EAST LANSING, Mich. - For the second time this season, Michigan State volleyball setter Malayah Long was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday.Â
The Lincoln, Nebraska, native is the first Spartan to win multiple Freshman of the Week honors from the league since Biamba Kabengele during the 2019 season and first setter to do so since Rachel Minarick in 2014.Â
Long helped MSU to a 2-0 weekend at home in conference action last week with a five-set win over Iowa and a sweep of No. 20 Indiana, handing the Hoosiers their first B1G loss of the season. She totaled 75 assists to average 9.38 assists per set while adding six kills, eight digs and a pair of blocks. Against the Hawkeyes, Long tallied 54 assists, her second time eclipsing the 50-assist mark in a single match this season.Â
Long currently ranks third in the conference in total assists with 617 and sits in a tie for fifth in assists per set, averaging 10.28.Â
MSU hosts No. 1 Nebraska on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. before taking on Maryland at home on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m.Â
