Michigan State improves to 14-23 on the season while Western Michigan moves to 17-17 overall.
The Spartans were led offensively by sophomores Hannah Hawley and Sydney Doloszycki, who slugged back-to-back solo home runs to put MSU ahead, 3-2, in the fifth inning. Seniors Jenae Wash, Anna Fox and Alexis Ross also had hits on Wednesday.
Doloszycki, Fox and sophomore Britain Beshears each walked. Ross stole a pair of bases to give her 15 successful swipes on the season.
Taylor (2-9) was strong in the circle allowing just two earned runs while striking out five WMU batters.
