Spartans Shut Out Lindenwood, 4-0

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State earned a 4-0 shutout over Lindenwood on Friday night at Munn Ice Arena to open the weekend series.
The No. 1 Spartans got two goals in each the first and third periods, and a 29-save shutout from Trey Augustine, his second of the season. Owen Bartoszkiewicz earned second star honors for his 52 saves, the most for an MSU opponent this season.
Matt Basgall (power play) and Daniel Russell scored three goals just over three minutes apart midway through the opening period, which was all of the scoring in the game until the waning minutes. Tommi Männistö scored his first of the season on a nifty play with just over three minutes remaining in regulation, working around a pair of defenders. Isaac Howard (goal, assist) closed out the scoring by converting on a penalty shot with just 53 seconds remaining in the game.
MSU outshot Lindenwood 56-29 and shut down five power play chances against.
The teams finish out the two-game series on Sunday in a matinee contest. The puck drops at Munn Ice Arena at 4 pm

Statistics of Note
- Lindenwood and MSU met for the first time in program history.
- MSU finished 1-for-4 on the power play, and held Lindenwood off the board in five chances against.
- The Spartans put a season-high 56 shots on net, its most since a 57-shot performance against Michigan Tech in last December's GLI.
- MSU had 40+ shots on goal for the fifth time in 11 games. MSU's previous season high of 47 came in the second game at Lake Superior State.
- Trey Augustine earned his second shutout of the season and the fifth of his career with his 29-save performance.
- Isaac Howard continues to lead the Spartans in assists, picking up his eighth of the year on the Basgall tally. He recorded his fifth multiple-point game of the season, and pushed his career total to 50 points in 47 games at MSU (14-36-50). His career scoring line is 20-47-67.
- Howard scored a career-best eight goals as a sophomore, and has six now as a junior.
- Matt Basgall's first-period goal was his second of the season. The blueliner had a 1-15-16 scoring line a year ago, and now has 2-6-8, exactly half the number of points through 11 games.
- Daniel Russell's eighth goal of the season doubled the MSU lead in the first period.
- Charlie Stramel earned an assist on the Basgall goal, his sixth of the season. He surpassed his sophomore year total of five and is one short of his freshman year career-best of seven (at Wisconsin).
- Sophomore Tommi Männistö scored his first of the season on an impressive individual effort, getting by not one, but two defenders.
- Freshmen Mikey DeAngelo and Shane Vansaghi each had an assist on the Männistö score. Vansaghi owns the team's longest active point scoring streak at five games and is tied for second on the team in assists (7).
- Patrick Geary and Karsen Dorwart each earned assists on the Russell first-period goal. It was the third of the season for Geary and the fifth for Dorwart.
