No. 14 Women's Soccer Travels to Northern Colorado for Road Opener

GREELEY, Colo. -Â 14th-ranked Michigan State women's soccer travels to Greeley, Colorado, for its first road test of the season against Northern Colorado on Thursday, Aug. 24 at 9 p.m. ET/7 p.m. MT.

FIRST TOUCH
MSU enters Tuesday's match with a 2-0-0 record after topping Bowling Green, 3-1, on Aug. 20 at home. Three different Spartans scored goals in MSU's win over the Falcons, each scoring their first goals of the year. Senior midfielders Justina Gaynor and Kelly Severini, as well as senior defender/midfieler Zivana Labovic, each scored for the Spartans, while sophomore midfielder Emerson Sargeant added assists on Gaynor and Labovic's goals. Graduate student Kaitlyn Parks (62 minutes) and redshirt junior Ellie Thallman (28 minutes) split time in goal, with Parks earning her second win as a Spartan.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Northern Colorado is led by head coach Tim Barrera who is in his 25th season at the helm. The winningest coach in Northern Colorado women's soccer history, he holds a 216-196-48 record during his time with the Bears. The Bears (0-2-0) dropped their first two contests of the 2023 season, most recently dropping a 1-0 decision to Iowa State on Aug. 20.Senior forward Melina Faris earned Big Sky honorable mention honors in 2022, while senior goalkeeper Kaya Lindberg has played every minute in goal this season for the Bears.
STORY OF THE SERIES
Thursday's match marks the first-ever between the Spartans and the Bears. Northern Colorado will host a ranked opponent for the first time as a DI program, dating back to 2003.
The Spartans will look to maintain their road success from last season, dropping only one true road contest in 2022.
