Women's Soccer Returns to Action at No. 14 Michigan Saturday Night

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -Â Michigan State women's soccer (8-3-2, 3-1-1 B1G) travels to Ann Arbor to take on 14th-ranked Michigan (7-2-3, 3-1-1 B1G) on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m.

FIRST TOUCH
The Spartans enter Saturday's match at 8-3-2 (3-1-1 B1G) after splitting a pair of home matches last week, knocking off Maryland, 5-0, on Sept. 28 before falling to then-No. 4 Penn State in a 3-1 contest on Oct. 1. All six goals from the Spartans last week were scored by different players. Gabby Mueller, Jordyn Wickes, Zivana Labovic, MJ Andrus and Ranya Senhaji scored goals for MSU in the win against Maryland, while Raegan Cox scored the lone MSU goal against the Nittany Lions. MSU will face a top-25 opponent for the third time on Saturday and will look to secure its first top-25 win of the season.
The Spartans and Wolverines currently sit in a four-way tie for second in the league standings with 10 points each, joined by Indiana and Ohio State.
SCOUTING MICHIGAN
Michigan is led by sixth-year head coach Jennifer Klein, who holds a 63-32-14 record during her time in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines enter Saturday's match at 7-2-3 (3-1-1 B1G) after tying then-No. 4 Penn State, 1-1, on Sept. 28, before defeating Maryland, 4-0, on Oct. 1. Senior forward Sammi Woods leads the Wolverines in points (15) and goals (7) this season. Goalkeeper Stephanie Sparkowski posts the fourth-best goals-against average in the league at .676 and has allowed only eight goals this season.
UM freshman forward Gabrielle Prych and MSU freshman forward/midfielder Bella Najera lead all freshmen in the B1G in total goals (5).
STORY OF THE SERIES
Saturday's match marks the 30th all-time between the Spartans and Wolverines. Michigan holds a 14-8-7 edge in the series, including a 10-1-3 record in Ann Arbor.In last year's contest in East Lansing, the Spartans earned their first victory over Michigan since 2017 with a 2-0 win on Oct. 9. Current junior forward Jordyn Wickes scored the opening goal in that contest.
MSU's only win in Ann Arbor came in a 1-0 overtime victory on Oct. 21, 1994. The Spartans will look to secure back-to-back wins against the Wolverines for the first time in program history on Saturday.
