Spartans Fall at No. 10 Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Michigan State field hockey fell to No. 10 Iowa, 1-0, Friday afternoon at Grant Field, in the Spartans' final B1G matchup of the season.
Michigan State falls to 8-9 overall and 1-7 in the conference with the loss. Iowa moves to 11-6 and 4-4.
Iowa and Michigan State played a scoreless first half. Despite an 8-2 Iowa advantage in shots over the first two quarters, the Spartans held off the Hawkeyes, as Spartan goalkeeper Monique Jardell made two of her four total saves in the first half. The Spartans' defense also fended off nine Iowa first-half penalty corner opportunities.
Senior defender Celina Riccardo recorded a shot off a penalty corner in the first quarter while junior forward Lulu Fulton forced an Iowa save in the final minutes of the first half.
Iowa broke the scoring open with a goal from Annika Herbine off a penalty corner in the 31st minute. Despite a late push in the fourth quarter, Michigan State was unable to tie up the game.
The Spartans play their final game of the season on Sunday, Oct. 30, hosting Kent State at Ralph Young Field at 1 p.m. The game will serve as the team's Title IX Day, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Title IX.
