SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Michigan State men's tennis team wrapped up play Sunday at the Bayliss Invite hosted by Notre Dame.
"This was a great first fall event for our team," head coach Gene Orlando said. "Each player had the opportunity to play multiple matches whether they won or lost. It was awesome to see the improvement with each match. Luke Baylis and Anthony Pero led the way going 3-1 in singles and 2-0 in doubles."
The men went 3-1 in doubles play on Sunday morning, kicking things off with a 6-4 win by Jarreau Campbell and Josh Portnoy against opponents from DePaul. Reed Crocker and Max Sheldon teamed up for a 6-2 victory over Ian Brady their foes from Marquette. Anthony Pero picked up another win on the weekend with Luke Baylis when they defeated Jackson Boone and Fynn Lohse from Western Michigan.
In singles action, the Spartans picked up their final three wins of the weekend. Jack Winkler earned his first singles win since April 2019 when he defeated Alexander Zederbauer of Michigan, 6-1, 7-6 (4). Luke Bayliss won against Cleveland State's Mikael Erler, 6-4, 7-6 (3). Campbell earned another win, this time solo, 6-1, 6-3 against Pablo Dale of Marquette.
Overall, Michigan State finished 26-19 at the Bayliss Invite with an 8-1 doubles record. MSU is next in action on Oct. 1-3 for the Beeman Invite, hosted on the campus of Michigan State.
