Men's Tennis Hosts Big Ten Indoors Starting Tomorrow

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State's men's tennis team hosts the Big Ten Indoor individual tournament this weekend at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. Competition begins on Thursday, Nov. 4 with doubles action and will conclude on Sunday, Nov. 7.
"We have a very strong field and this will be a great four days of high-level competition at our second hosted national event in two weeks," head coach Gene Orlando said. "We have improved individually and grown as a team with each event and there's no doubt we will be a better team at the end of this tournament. Looking forward to a strong finish to our fall season and to carry the momentum into our off-season training camp."
The Big Ten Indoor tournament gives players from across the conference the opportunity to face off against one another in singles and doubles play before the regular season's dual matches in the spring.
Players will be paired together via UTR rankings and placed within a main draw for both singles and doubles. Each player is guaranteed at least one doubles match and three singles matches, with a consolation bracket being announced at the end of both the first and second rounds of singles.
A full slate of Spartans will be competing in the tournament. The Green & White are coming off an impressive showing at the ITA Regionals. Freshman Max Sheldon made it all the way to the quarterfinals of singles competition before falling to No. 3 seed James Trotter of Ohio State, who went on to win the regional championships. As a team, Michigan State picked up four wins in doubles action.
