Women's Soccer Travels to Minnesota, Hosts Iowa in Third Week of B1G Play

The Spartans open the month of October at Minnesota on Thursday at 8 p.m.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Spartans begin the month of October on the road at Minnesota on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 8 p.m. MSU will return home to East Lansing on Sunday, Oct. 6 for a matchup with Iowa at 1 p.m. to close out the week.

Michigan State currently sits at 8-3-0 on the season, including a 1-2-0 mark in Big Ten play.

LAST TIME OUT
The Spartans look to continue their momentum from week two of conference play, after gaining its first conference win of the season vs. Purdue, 2-0, on Sunday, Sept. 29.

Under rainy weather conditions, MSU shut out the Boilermakers, 2-0, behind goals from Paige Webber and Gia Wahlberg.

With the second week of Big Ten play in the books, two teams have yet to lose a game in the conference. Michigan leads the Big Ten with 10 points and a 3-0-1 mark, while Wisconsin has nine points and stands at an undefeated 3-0-0.

Wisconsin (No. 13) and Michigan (No. 24) are the two Big Ten teams in the United Soccer Coaches poll, with two other teams receiving votes. Iowa and Rutgers both received votes in the Sept. 29 poll.

DEFENDING DEMARTIN
Michigan State remains undefeated at home this season with a 6-0-0 record, which marks the most wins at home since 2012 when the team had seven home wins.
The Spartans have only allowed four goals at home this season and have recorded three shutouts in East Lansing. The three shutouts at home are the most since the 2015 season when the team also shutout three opponents.

The Spartans have one overtime win at home this season which was a 3-2 win over Bowling Green on Sept. 12. This was the Spartans' first overtime win at home in two seasons as MSU's last overtime win at home was on Sept. 29, 2016. The Spartans defeated Maryland, 3-2, in double overtime.

Gia Wahlberg, Camryn Evans and Danielle Stephan are both ranked nationally in total goals and total assists, respectively.

With her eight goals this season, Wahlberg leads the Big Ten and is tied for 10th nationally in total goals scored.

Wahlberg has scored the most goals by a Spartan in a single-season since Laura Heyboer scored 18 goals during the 2011 season. The forward is also tied for third nationally with four-game winning goals.

Evans and Stephan are tied with a team-high five assists in the first 11 games, which is good for second in the Big Ten. Stephan led the Spartans in assists for the past two seasons, tallying six in 2017 and four last season.

FRESHMEN IN THE LINEUP
Freshmen Paige Webber and Bria Schrotenboer have earned starting positions in the Spartan lineup this season.

Webber is the only freshman to start in all 11 games this season and has 10 points with four goals and two assists to begin her rookie campaign.
