EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State field hockey seniors Madison O'Neill and Bailey Higgins have earned All-Big Ten team honors, as announced by the conference on Wednesday.
O'Neill received second-team honors, the first postseason Big Ten honor of her career. A Hummelstown, Pa. native, O'Neill started all 20 games as an integral part of the Spartan offense. The senior ended the season fifth on the team with one goal and three assists for five points. O'Neill concludes her career in the green and white with 76 appearances and 45 starts alongside 14 career points on two goals and 10 assists.
O'Neill was also named as an alternate for the Victory Sports Tours/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Senior Game set for Nov. 16.
Higgins was MSU's Sportsmanship Award honoree. The students chosen for this award are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These students must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.Â
Team captain as a senior, Higgins tied O'Neill in points with two goals and one assist on the season. Higgins scored the crucial game-winning overtime goal against Indiana in the Big Ten tournament to send Michigan State to the second round. In total, Higgins made 76 appearances and 65 starts for MSU during her career tallying 11 career points.
Kendall Anderson and Simone Vagnoni represented Michigan State on the postseason awards list in each of the last two seasons, while Katie Miller was last years sportsmanship honoree.
