Spartans in Fourth After One Round at Quail Valley

VERO BEACH, Florida -- A 4-under-par 284 by the MSU men's golf team on Sunday has put the Spartans in fourth place after the opening round of the Quail Valley Intercollegiate in Vero Beach, Florida. MSU was one of five teams in the field of 16 to shoot under par at the Quail Valley Golf Club and is five shots back of the tournament leader – Arkansas State.

Donnie Trosper and James Piot both shot 2-under-par 70s to lead MSU on Sunday and are tied for 11^th place. Trosper's 70 included three pars as well as an eagle on the par-5, 570-yard 10^th hole. Piot was 1-over-par after the front nine, but four birdies on the back helped bring him under par.

Andrew Walker and Troy Taylor II both turned in even-par 72s and are tied for 22^nd place. The similarities in rounds also included both players having 12 pars over the final 13 holes.

Kaleb Johnson was 4-over-par on the front nine, but picked up three birdies on the back to finish with a 3-over-par 75.

The tournament's individual leader is Ryoto Furuya who shot a 5-under-par 67 on Sunday.

The Spartans will tee off in round No. 2 from the first hole between 9 – 9:40 a.m. on Monday.
