
Spartans Tied For Fourth Place After One Round of the B1G Championships

FLOURTOWN, Pennsylvania – The Michigan State men's golf team shot an 11-over-par 291 in the opening round of the Big Ten Championships on Friday at the Philadelphia Cricket Club Wissahickon Course in Flourtown, Pennsylvania. The Spartans are one of two teams tied (Rutgers) for fourth place, while Minnesota and Illinois are tied for second place at 7-over-par 287. Purdue leads at 2-over-par 282.
GOLFSTAT
Donnie Trosper led the Spartans with an even-par 70, putting him in a tie for fifth place. Trosper was even on both the front and back nine and recorded three birdies on the day.
Angus Flanagan of Minnesota leads the tournament after a 5-under-par 65, as he was one of just four players to shoot under par on Friday.
Freshman Troy Taylor II is also in the top 10 as he's tied for eighth place. Taylor was 3-over-par at the turn, but seven pars and two birdies on the back got him to 1-over-par 71.
James Piot shot a 4-over-par 74 and is in the top 30 – tied for 28th place.
Kaleb Johnson was 6-over-par 76 and in 47th place, while Andrew Walker carded a 9-over-par 79 and is in 64th.
The Spartans are scheduled to start Saturday's second round from hole No. 1 beginning at 9 a.m.
