
MSU Falls to No. 25 Pacific in Season Opener

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Michigan State University field hockey team fell is its season opener, 4-0, to No. 25 Pacific Friday afternoon at Pacific Field Hockey Turf in Stockton, Calif.
The Tigers controlled the majority of the game, taking an early lead when they scored off a penalty corner in the 10th minute of play, giving them a 1-0 advantage.
On the game, Pacific outshot Michigan State 20-16 including a tally of nine shots on goal compared to seven for MSU.
Redshirt senior midfielder, Kendal Anderson, led the charge for the Spartans with six shots, four of which were on goal. Freshman forward Lia Sinisi recorded two shots, one on goal, in her debut for the Green and White.
Senior goalkeeper Katie Miller tallied three saves on the afternoon in goal for the Spartans.
Anderson had a scoring opportunity in the 19th minute, charging down the field and firing a shot on goal that was stopped by Pacific.
The Spartans earned a penalty corner in the 26th minute, but the Tigers' defense quickly collapsed on the Spartans stopping MSU from getting a shot off.
Pacific took the 2-0 lead into the break and outshot the Spartans 10-4 in the first half to go along with a 7-1 corner count.
The Tigers wasted no time in the second half, taking a 3-0 lead in the 41st minute.
In the 54th minute Pacific made it a 4-0 game with a goal from inside the circle.
The Spartans had a chance on a penalty corner in the 64th minute when Anderson fired a shot on goal. Pacific came away with a huge save to earn the shutout over the Spartans.
The Green and White continues its three-game road trip when it travels to UC Davis for a match Saturday. The game is slated to begin at 5 p.m. ET.
