
Field Hockey Falls to No. 7 Maryland, 3-1

COLLEGE PARK, Maryland. - The Michigan State field hockey team was defeated by No. 7 Maryland, 3-1, on Friday night in College Park, Maryland. MSU falls to 5-7 on the year and 1-3 in Big Ten play, while UMD improves to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
The Spartans got on the board in the ninth minute to take an early 1-0 lead on Sophie Macadre's fifth goal of the season.
The Terps responded immediately with the equalizer in the 13th minute on Linnea Gonzales' goal from the front right of the cage.
Katie Miller made seven saves in the opening half to keep the game tied, despite Maryland outshooting MSU, 10-5. The junior finished with a season-high nine saves for the game.
Maryland took control of the momentum with the go-ahead goal just over three minutes into the second half to take a 2-1 lead.
MSU held the deficit to just one for much of the second half until UMD's Madison Maguire scored an insurance goal with just over 13 minutes remaining to extend the lead to 3-1.
The Spartans return to action on Sunday, Oct. 9, when they head to Washington, D.C. to take on No. 20 America.
