Former Michigan State rower Olivia Jamrog competed in the World Rowing Under-23 Championships last month, finishing second in the quadruple sculls B-final.
"I think I performed very well," said Jamrog, an Edwardsburg, Michigan, native. "I think everything came together at the right time. We had a really great race, we were just a couple of seconds away from winning."
Competing in Plovdiv, Bulgaria from July 22-26, Jamrog's crew finished just two seconds behind Austria in the B-final, coming in with a time of 7:02.43.
In the repechage, Jamrog's crew missed qualifying for the A-final by one spot, finishing behind Denmark.
The four-year Spartan rower said the most exciting part of the competition was seeing so many great racers in the same place.
"It was great for me to see the fastest athletes from the countries put together," she said. "It makes for really great racing because the margin between the boats was so small."
Jamrog qualified for the U-23 championships on June 24 after posting an uncontested time of 6:57.42 following intense training sessions in Greenwich, Connecticut.
After months of preparing for the race, Jamrog is now looking forward to taking some time off.
"I'm going to take a bit of time to recover and probably look at a senior team in the future," she said. "I feel like I'm at the top of my mental game and feel like we put together a great race. I'm really proud of it."
