
No. 73 Women's Tennis Overwhelms UConn

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. - The No. 73 Spartans improved to 11-2 on the year with a 5-2 victory at Connecticut on Wednesday. Michigan State improved to 2-1 on the road for its second-straight victory.
"It was a good win," said head coach Simone Jardim. We didn't know a lot about them going into the match because we never play these girls. We have done a great job outfighting teams this season. It was a really good win for us today, UConn is a good team."
The Spartans started the day taking the doubles point from Connecticut. At No. 2 doubles the team of freshman Allie Baer and senior Catherine Parenteau downed Emma Alderman and Zaina Zaki, 6-3. Baer and Parenteau are now 8-3 on the year in doubles play. At No. 3 doubles, freshman Lexi Baylis and junior Emily Meyers improved to 12-3, beating Yelyzaveta Pletnyeva and Summer Walker, 7-5.
Catherine Parenteau was victorious at No. 4 singles. Parenteau improved to 7-4 on the year beating Zaina Zaki, 6-2, 6-3.
Sophomore Athena Trouillot won a tight match at No. 5 singles. Trouillot defeated Summer Walker, 7-6 (2), 7-5. Trouillot is now 17-8 on the season.
At No. 3 singles, freshman Aslina Chua came from behind to defeat Yelyzaveta Pletnyeva, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1. Chua improves to 16-7 in singles this season.
Lexi Baylis finished the day winning at No. 2 singles. Baylis defeated Emma Alderman, 6-3, 6-7 (2), 6-4. She is now 24-3 on the year in singles play.
The Spartans return to action on Friday as they start the Big Ten schedule at Rutgers. The action is slated to begin at 1 p.m. at the East Brunswick Racquet Club. Michigan State will return home to face Nebraska on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. at the MSU Indoor Tennis Courts.
