
No. 73 Spartans Sink Scarlet Knights

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. - The Michigan State women's tennis team improved to 12-2 on the season and 1-0 in the Big Ten. The Spartans defeated Rutgers on the road, 5-2.
"It was a nice win on the road today," said head coach Simone Jardim. "This has been a tough week for us. We have had two tough road matches and we still have to face Nebraska on Sunday."
The Spartans started off strong on Friday taking the doubles point from the Scarlet Knights. At No. 2 doubles, senior Catherine Parenteau and freshman Allie Baer won, 8-4. The sophomore duo of Athena Trouillot and Erin Faulkner was victorious at No. 1 doubles, winning, 8-3.
Erin Faulkner earned the victory at No. 1 singles, defeating Gina Li, 2-6, 7-5, 6-0. Faulkner is now 15-10 on the season in singles play.
Freshman Lexi Baylis tied the freshman-school record for single season record for singles wins at 25. Baylis defeated Lindsey Kayati at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-2. Baylis is now 25-3 in singles.
At No. 5 singles, Athena Trouillot defeated Mariam Zein, 7-6 (1), 1-6, 6-4. Trouillot improves to 18-8 in singles.
Junior Emily Meyers downed Lee Levy at No. 6 singles in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. Meyers is now 16-8 in singles this season.
The Spartans return to action Sunday as they host No. 61 Nebraska at 10 a.m. at the MSU Indoor Tennis Courts.
