
Powers, No. 16 Michigan State Take Down Oakland, 79-64

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Aerial Powers scored 24 points and grabbed 16 rebounds and No. 16 Michigan State beat Oakland 79-64 on Wednesday night.
Tori Jankoska added 19 points, Anna Morrissey 11 and Jasmine Hines 10 for the Spartans (3-1). Powers is the first player in the MSU women's basketball program to open the season with four straight double-doubles.
Olivia Nash led the Golden Grizzlies (1-3) with 17 points and seven rebounds. Elena Popkey added 14 points and Nola Anderson 12.
Michigan State made 18 of 38 shots for 47.4 percent in taking a 41-27 halftime lead over Oakland. Powers had 16 points and seven rebounds. The Golden Grizzlies shot just 30 percent in opening half.
Michigan State led by as many as 20 points in the second half.
The Spartans dominated the boards, 52-35, including 14 offensive rebounds as they scored 42 points in the paint to Oakland's 26.

Redshirt-sophomore forward Aerial Powers is the first player in MSU history to register four-straight double-doubles to open the season ... Powers now has logged eight double-double in her last 10 games as part of 14 career double-doubles ... The 16 rebounds Wednesday was a season-high for Powers and was two shy of her career-high of 18 boards.
Powers also netted a career-high three three-pointers.
Sophomore guard Tori Jankoska's 19 points was her 21st game in the last 25 games played with double-figures ... Jankoska swatted a career-best three shots Wednesday.
Powers and Jankoska both netted double-digits for the fourth-straight game this season and the 27th time in their careers.
Senior guard Anna Morrissey tallied a career-high 11 points.
Junior guard Cara Miller tied her career-high for rebounds (7) and assists (4).
Senior center Jasmine Hines logged a season-high 10 points Wednesday, for her 18th career game with double-digit points.
The Spartans posted season-highs for points (79), field goal percentage (44.1 percent), assists (18), steals (10) and blocks (7).
Wednesday was MSU's seventh-straight victory over Oakland, improving to 11-4 overall, including 7-2 in East Lansing.
Michigan State has won 43 of its last 45 games against in-state opponents, including a 28-2 (.933) mark under Coach Merchant ... All-time, MSU is 176-58 (.752) against teams from the state of Michigan.
The Spartans have started the same starting line-up of sophomore guard Tori Jankoska, senior guard Anna Morrissey, freshman guard Jasmine Lumpkin, redshirt-sophomore forward Aerial Powers and senior forward Becca Mills in all four games this season ...
