Women's Tennis Finish Action in Akron

AKRON, Ohio - The Michigan State women's tennis team finished competition at the Akron Invitational on Sunday with three victories. The Spartans tallied 16 victories for the weekend.
"It was a good tournament for us as we were able to see some of the things that we need to work on," said head coach Simone Jardim. "We also saw some things that we have been talking about coming along. This is a young group very able and willing to learn."
The Spartans started the day in singles play. The Big Red of Cornell came away victorious in five of the six morning matches.
Freshman Lexi Baylis was victories at No. 5 singles defeating Madison Stevens of Cornell, 6-1, 6-4. Baylis finished the weekend 3-0 and champion of Flight E.
MSU finished the day in doubles competition against West Virginia. The Spartans finished the round coming away winners of two of the three matches.
The duo of Baylis and junior Emily Meyers notched a victory at No. 2 singles defeating West Virginia's Lyn Yuen Choo and Carolina Lewis, 8-3.
At No. 3 doubles, freshman Aslina Chua and senior Hilary Hager defeated the Mountaineers Yvon Martinez and Kristin Quill of Cornell, 8-6.
The Spartans have a week off until they return back to action at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships. The Regional Championships will take place Oct. 17-21 in Champaign, Illinois.
