
Softball Shuts Out Eastern Michigan

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State softball downed Eastern Michigan, 3-0, in its final game of the season at Secchia Stadium. The Spartans improved their record to 22-23 on the season, 7-9 in Big Ten games. In the circle, freshman Dani Goranson pitched the complete game and held the Eagles (18-30) scoreless. Senior Jenny Ramsaier, sophomore Ellie Stoffer and sophomore Stephanie Sanders all notched an RBI for MSU.
Michigan State broke open the game in the bottom of the second with three runs. Sophomore Sarah Bowling hit a double to left field to start the inning off swinging. Bowling advanced to third as sophomore McKinzie Freimuth grounded out. Freshman Destinee Luna reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a throwing error by Eastern Michigan's second baseman. Notching the first run was Bowling, Ramsaier earned the RBI off a fielder's choice. Ramsaier went to third on a throwing error by second base. Stoffer hit a sacrifice bunt to send Luna across the plate. Sanders pinch hit for junior Dana Briggs, Sanders walked to first and advanced to second on a wild pitch to send Ramsaier home for the third run.
Neither team was able to score in the final five innings to finalize the score at 3-0.
Leading the Spartan offense was sophomore Alyssa McBride going 1-for-2 at the plate. Senior Kylene Hopkins and Bowling went 1-for-3.
Goranson pitched her sixth complete game of the season and earned her first complete game shutout.
MSU heads to Wisconsin for its regular season finale. The series will kick off on Friday, May 3, at 7 p.m. ET. The Spartans face the Badgers on Saturday, May 4, at 2 p.m. ET and conclude the series on Sunday, May 5, at 2 p.m. ET.
