
Softball Concludes Action at FAU Invitational

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Michigan State softball fell to Louisiana-Monroe, 6-1, Saturday afternoon.
ULM (9-13) gained an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, scoring four runs, 4-0.
To start off the second inning, Spartan sophomore Ellie Stoffer bunted for a single and was sent to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Alyssa McBride. Stoffer continued to advance to third on a hit to first by senior Jenny Ramsaier and scored a run on a passed ball. The Michigan State (14-11) run closed the deficit in score, 4-1.
MSU held the Warhawks to two more runs, one in the third and another in fourth inning.
Leading the Spartan offense was Stoffer, 3-for-3 and senior Kylene Hopkins, 2-for-4.
Freshman Dani Goranson (2-4) pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs, both earned, while junior Kelly Smith (11-6) saw action in 2/3 of an inning and gave up four runs, none of which were earned.
Warhawk Haylie Wilson (3-8) pitched the complete game for Louisiana-Monroe and took the win.
The Spartans finish up the tournament season next weekend in Bloomington, Ind. MSU will face Wright State, Central Michigan, UIC and Toledo.
