Men's Tennis Picks Up Win

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team (16-10, 5-5) faced off against Nebraska today in their final home match of the season. It was the last home match for seniors Austin Brooks and Ronnie Hulewicz who celebrated their senior day with everyone wearing jerseys with the senior's names. The Spartans came up with a big 5-2 win today to bring their conference record back to .500 with one match left in the season.
Nebraska came away with the first point of the day as they swept in doubles play. On court three Aumueller and Gollner defeated Denis Bogatov and Gijs Linders 8-3. On court two Lindheim and Schulze came away with an 8-4 win over Austin Brooks and Harry Jadun to gain the first point of the match. The final doubles match went into a tie-breaker but the Spartans were unable to pick up the win as Aaron Pfister and Drew Lied fell to Stenger and Stock 8-7.
MSU came back to tie things up when Gijs Linders defeated Gollner on court six by a score of 6-3, 6-4. The next win for the Spartans came on court one as Aaron Pfister came up with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Aumueller to give State their first lead of the day. The rest of the matches for the day were all close and went into three sets. On court four Drew Lied won 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 over Stenger.
Nebraska came back with a win on court three as Schulze defeated Ronnie Hulewicz 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. Austin Brooks was able to win on his senior day in the closest match of the day. Brooks came from behind after dropping the first set 4-6 to win the next two sets 7-5, 7-5 over Blackwell to gain the fourth point and win for the Spartans. Denis Bogatov won the final match of the day on court two in a come from behind win over Lindheim 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Michigan State will travel to Penn State next Sunday (April 22) for their final regular season match. The match is scheduled to take place at noon at Sarni Tennis Center.
