East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the game, which was all the offense they needed in a 2-1 victory over Bowling Green on Friday. Brett Perlini had a goal and an assist, Zach Golembiewski had a pair of helpers, and Dean Chelios had the other MSU tally. The Spartans improve to 14-17-4, 10-15-2-0 in conference play.

MSU wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, potting the first goal of the night just 1:16 into the contest. Brett Perlini poked the puck away from a BG player on the wall in the neutral zone, and Zach Golembiewski carried it into the offensive zone on a three-on-one. Golembiewski broke from right to left to elude the defender, and Dean Chelios picked it up on the doorstep, slid it to his forehand, and put it past Andrew Hammond. The same line doubled MSU's lead at 9:02, as Golembiewski fed Perlini at the hash marks, and Perlini put it on net. Hammond made the save, but the puck popped out and trickled over the line for his 17th tally of the season. The Falcons cut into the lead less than a minute later, as a shot from the point by Brett Mohler bounced off the skate of an MSU defender and past Will Yanakeff .
That was all the scoring the teams would provide the crowd of 5,000 in attendance, as the teams skated through the final two periods without many more quality scoring opportunities at either end. Yanakeff did come up with two big saves in the final minute with Hammond pulled in favor of an extra skater, and both Chris Forfar and Lee Reimer had big faceoff victories that allowed MSU to maintain possession.
Yanakeff made 16 saves to snap a personal three-game skid. Hammond finished with 24 in an excellent outing.
The teams will meet on Saturday in a 7 p.m. contest to conclude the regular season. The Spartan seniors will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
NOTES: Michigan State won back-to-back games for the second time in a month and the third time this season. The Spartans go for a sweep tomorrow night against the Falcons ... Dean Chelios, who had his career-best four-game point scoring streak snapped at Alaska last Saturday, potted a goal just 1:16 into the game ... With a pair of assists in the opening 20 minutes, Zach Golembiewski had his first career multiple-point game ... Brett Perlini had a goal and an assist in the first period, his first multiple-point outing since Jan. 21 vs. Miami. It also matched his scoring output in the nine games since that contest against the RedHawks ... The Spartans need a win by Lake Superior State over Miami tomorrow to avoid the worst travel of the opening round, a trip to Alaska. MSU was there last weekend and split with the Nanooks and took the season series 2-1-1. LSSU fell to Miami tonight, 8-1, at home ...
