EAST LANSING, Mich. - As released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) this week, the Michigan State women's tennis team has been named an ITA All-Academic Team for the fifth-consecutive year. To be eligible, a team must compile a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.20 or above in the current academic year. MSU also posted four individuals on the ITA Scholar Athlete list.
Earning individual honors were freshman Renata de Paiva (Belo Horizonte, Brazil), junior Manon Noe (Liancort, France), freshman Michaela Silesova (Topolcany, Slovakia) and junior Whitney Wilson (Evansville, Ind.).
Student-athletes must achieve at least a 3.50 grade-point average in the current academic year and be listed as a letterwinner for the corresponding season.
De Paiva saw limited time for the Spartans last season as she posted two singles wins during the spring. De Paiva earned her wins at both the No. 5 and No. 6 positions.
Noe was hampered last season with an injury, forcing her to see minimal time on the court. Noe saw a majority of her contests in doubles play where she recorded six wins on the year. Five of her doubles victories occurred in the No. 1 doubles position. This marks Noe's second Scholar Athlete honor.
Silesova led the Spartans at the top of the lineup, appearing in all conference matches at No. 1 singles. Silesova also spent time in the doubles lineup in 2010 for the Green and White. Silesova ended the year with 10 doubles wins, four of which occurred against conference opponents.
Wilson spent the 2010 spring season in the heart of the lineup. She was tied for a team-high 12 wins during conference play, posting six of those wins at the No. 3 singles position. Wilson also tied for tops on the team with 12 overall doubles wins.
The Spartans open the 2010-11 fall campaign with the annual Spartan Invitational Sept. 24-26.
