ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Michigan State softball team (20-29, 4-13 Big Ten) fell to No. 2 Michigan on Saturday, May 8 at Wilpon Softball Complex, 10-0. The Wolverines are now 43-6 overall and 15-1 in the Big Ten after winning the five-inning affair. Picking up the lone hit for the Spartans in the top of the second was sophomore Lauren Kramer. Kramer's hit was a single down the right field line.
The Wolverines got the scoring started in the second with their first of three consecutive three or more run innings.
Angela Findlay got the scoring started in the third with a two-run homer to right-center field. Roya St. Clair wound up scoring the third run of the inning off a single from Amanda Chidester. After the third, U-M led the Spartans 3-0.
In the fourth, Michigan's Molly Bausher came across for the first run of the inning after reaching third off a fielders choice and advancing home after an error by the Spartan first baseman. Maggie Viefhaus singled down the right field line to bring across Bree Evans for the second run of the inning. Findlay scored her second run of the game when St. Clair hit a ball that bounced off the pitcher and was fielded at second for the put-out at first. Viefhaus ended up rounding the bases and crossing home plate after Childester singled up the middle. The Wolverines brought the score to 10-0 after four innings.
Jordan Taylor (23-3) earned the win for Michigan in her five innings of work. Kramer was the pitcher of record for MSU, falling to 15-17 on the season.
The Spartans will host U-M on Sunday, May 9 for second game of the season series. Action will begin at 1 p.m. at Old College Field. Sunday's game will mark the home finale for the Green and White, and the finale game in the current stadium.
