
Spartans Conclude Day Two at Drobac Invite

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team concluded day two of the Stan Drobac Invitational, taking 10 of 16 matches in singles play and two of four in doubles competition.
The Spartans faced Ball State in both singles and doubles, as MSU earned seven total wins against the Cardinals. Seniors Jason Norville and John Stratton defeated Alberton and Smith, 8-4, at one doubles. Freshman Aaron Pfister and sophomore Will Davis earned the other doubles victory, 8-2, against Smith and Bryon in the four doubles spot.
Carpenter and Monroy of Ball State defeated junior Ronnie Hulewicz and sophomore Denis Bogatov, 8-5, while Bussert and Sansorne took down junior Austin Brooks and and freshman Andrew Lied, 8-4, at three doubles.
Bogatov and Hulewicz redeemed their doubles loss in singles play, as Hulewicz defeated Smith, 4-6, 6-3, 10-5, and Bogatov defeated Albertin, 5-7, 7-6 (4) 10-7, in the one and two doubles spots, respectively.
Pfister and Lied also earned victories in the five and six spots in singles, as Pfister earned a victory over Bussert, 6-4, 6-3, while Lied Defeated Carpenter, 7-5, 6-3. Davis earned the final victory over Ball State by defeating Wegener, 6-4, 6-2.
At the one and two singles play against Xavier, Bogatov and Hulewicz earned victories over Deye (6-4, 6-1) and Roebker 6-2, 7-5 respectively. Stratton defeated MacDonald in a close match, 6-3, 4-6 (10-5), and sophomore Christian Roehmer defeated Starr, 6-2, 6-1. Will Davis earned the final victory for the Spartans, taking down Diaz, 6-4, 6-2.
Both Pfister and Lied suffered losses against the Musketeers, falling to Mei (6-4, 6-2) and Bandy, respectively.
The Spartans conclude the Stan Drobac Invitational tomorrow (Oct. 10) at 10 a.m. at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
