
Men's Tennis Drops Road Finale to Purdue

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team fell to Purdue Saturday, in West Lafayette, 5-2. MSU stands at 12-11 overall and 0-8 in the Big Ten. Freshman Ronnie Hulewicz and senior Alex Forger posted the two singles wins for the Spartans.
Although Purdue picked up the doubles point, the MSU doubles tandem of sophomore John Stratton and senior Alex Forger put up a fight against the doubles pairing of Branko Kuzamanovic and P.J. Rose. The pair held on, forcing the Purdue tandem into a tie-breaking set but ultimately fell, 8-7(3).
In singles play, Hulewicz defeated Roberto Cabrini in dominating fashion, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5 singles, while Forger posted a win over Branko Kuzmanovic, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2. Hulewicz holds the team-best overall record at 18-4 and 4-4 in conference play, and he has won seven of his last ten matches. Forger picked up his ninth singles win overall and fourth at the No. 2 position with this most recent win.
The Spartans will conclude the 2009 dual season at home next weekend, with Indiana on Saturday, April 18 and Illinois on Sunday, April 18. Play begins at noon both days.
