
Softball Suffers 9-1 Loss To No. 17 Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Michigan State softball (10-15, 0-2 Big Ten) fell in the second game of a two-game series at Ohio State Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Jessica Bracamonte batted in the Spartans only run, and freshman Lauren Kramer struck out two through five innings.
Ohio State jumped out to an early lead after scoring three runs on three hits in the first inning behind Whitney Cooper's three-run homer.
Sophomore Lindsey Hansen hit a double to left field in the second, but it wasn't until the third inning that the Spartans reached the scoreboard. Freshman Lori Padilla notched a single with one out. Bracamonte then doubled and advanced to third on the throw, while Padilla scored. Senior Kara Weigle reached first on a fielder's choice and Bracamonte was thrown out at home. A ground out to second ended the inning, with the Buckeyes leading 3-1.
Ohio State added a run in the fourth and fifth to widen the lead, and put the game out of reach in the sixth with four more runs scored.
Sophomore Lindsey Hansen was 2-for-3 at the plate, with a double and a triple in the game.
Kramer started in the circle for MSU, pitching five and a third innings and striking out two.
The Spartans open their home schedule on Tuesday, March 24 with a 4 p.m. game against Western Michigan at Old College Field.
