Columbus, Ohio - The 2009 Michigan State rowing program continued its fall slate this morning by topping both Ohio State and Michigan in a series of five controlled races on Griggs Reservoir. Each team was divided into three flights and competed in five races. Each race was designed to simulate real-race conditions, but each was limited to a maximum of 26 strokes per minute and from the customary 2,000 meters to 1,200. Each race lasted roughly five minutes.
"There were a lot of things that I liked from the team today," said head coach Matt Wiese. "Sometimes its hard to think while you are out there, but our team did a great job thinking out there and responding to the boat. Overall, I thought they did a nice job attacking while paying attention to what the boat was doing."
Thus far, the fall rowing slate has gone well for the Spartans as they have won every race. The Spartans, who have now competed in 10 races this fall, have won all ten. Last time out, MSU took all five races from Michigan on Belleville Lake on Sept. 21.
MSU will continue the fall schedule with a series of home races on the Grand River against Michigan for the third time this season on October 26 and 27.
