EAST LANSING, Mich. - Jantine Steinmetz was named Big Ten Offensive Player Of The Week after an impressive offensive display, leading the Spartans to a victory over Davidson Friday, Sept. 28. The Big Ten office made the announcement on Monday, Oct 1.
Steinmetz scored one goal against Central Michigan on Wednesday, Sept. 26, then followed it up with three goals against the Wildcats of Davidson on Friday. It was a convincing performance for the young freshman forward who hails from Amstelveen, Netherlands.
After her performance on Sunday, Steinmetz leads the Spartains in goals with 13; next in line is senior Becky Manning with 10. She also has one assist on the season, bringing her overall points total to a team-leading 29. The game against Davidson marks the fourth time this year that Steinmetz has had a multi-goal game. She also accomplished the feat against Miami (OH), Lindenwood, and St. Louis.
"Jantine has continued to adjust to the field hockey experience here in America. She continues to contribute more to the Spartans, and I think it's great that she has been recognized by the Big Ten for her performance," said head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof.
MSU stays at home for two games this weekend. The first is on Friday, Oct. 5 at 4 p.m. against the Michigan Wolverines. The Spartans then prepare to take on another Big Ten rival in Ohio State on Sunday, Oct 7, at 1 p.m.
