Men's Golf Sits in 13th at Inverness Intercollegiate

TOLEDO, Ohio - Junior Matt Harmon (Grand Rapids, Mich.) paced the Michigan State men's golf team with a 72-74 - 146 two-round total at the Inverness Intercollegiate, good for a tie for ninth place heading into Tuesday's final round. As a team, the Spartans shot 300-308 - 608 at the par-71, 7,255-yard Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, and sit in 13th.
Preseason No. 7 Southern Cal stormed to a commanding 10-shot lead over the 15-team field, shooting a team total of 289-292 - 581. Texas (305-286 - 591) sits in second behind the Trojans, while Coastal Carolina enters the final round in third (300-292 - 592). Florida (298-295 - 593) and host school Toledo (293-302 - 595) round out the top five.
Sophomore Ryan Brehm (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) opened with a 1-over-par 72 and finished the day in a tie for 24th with a 72-78 - 150 total. Sophomore Nathan Gunthorpe (Ovid, Mich.) improved his second-round score by six shots, and enters the final round with a 79-73 - 152 total.
Freshman Randy Hutchison (Traverse City, Mich.), in his Spartan debut, completed his first two collegiate rounds with a 77-87 - 164 total. Sophomore Brandon Cigna (Novi, Mich.) rounds out the Michigan State lineup, shooting an 87-83 - 170 total on the day.
Individually, Joshua Wooding of USC leads the field at 1-under-par (71-70 - 141), while teammate Taylor Wood sits one shot back at even-par. Toledo's Justin Hull, a native of Royal Oak, Mich., is in third, two shots behind.
Tuesday's final round begins with tee times starting at 8 a.m.
