
State Falls To Top Ranked Wake Forest

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State field hockey put up a tough fight, but top ranked and three-time National Champion Wake Forest was too much for the Spartans Sunday afternoon, beating State 2-0 in Winston-Salem.
Both Demon Deacon goals came in the first half, from freshman Christine Suggs, with the first at 15:48 and the second at 31:03.
The Spartans played evenly with Wake Forest in the second half, not allowing a goal, but had trouble mustering any offense to counter the Suggs goals. The Demon Deacons out shot State, 18-6, on the day
Defensively, Spartan senior goalie Christina Kirkaldy stopped a total of seven shots and sophomore midfielder Amy Schneider recorded a defensive save. Senior forward Michelle Huynh-Ba led the MSU attack with three shots, while freshman back Inge Kaars Sijpestijn fired two, and freshman forward Gwen Riley had one.
Michigan State, 7-2, is back in action Sat., Sept. 24, opening Big Ten play against Indiana, in Bloomington at 1 p.m.
