
Spartan Rookie Captures Singles Title At Wolverine Invitational

The Michigan State women's tennis team concluded play on Sunday, Oct. 2. in Ann Arbor and for the second year in a row, a Spartan has captured a title at the Wolverine Invitational. Freshman Ana Milosavljevic (Johannesburg, South Africa) captured the "Wolverine" Singles Flight Title.
After going 3-0 on the weekend, the Spartan rookie captured the title after knocking off Bowling Green's Andrea Meister, 7-5, 6-3. This is Milosavljevic's first career title as a Spartan.
"It's a great result as a freshman," said head coach Tim Bauer. "Her play has steadily increased with ever match she's played. Ana is a very talented player and will continue to develop."
Last year, Keri Thompson took home the title in the "Blue" Singles Flight.

Sophomore powerhouse Christine Bader (Okemos, Mich.) was the only Spartan to pick up a win in consolation play as she defeated Bowling Green's Ashley Jakupcin, 6-3, 6-2.
Junior Pascale Schnitzer (Santiago, Chile) struggled against Michigan's Lindsey Goldstein, falling 6-4, 6-3.
Cincinnati's Jill Klauck defeated junior Sarah Andrews (Darwin, Australia). After falling in the first set, 2-6, Klauck edged by Andrews to take the second set, 6-4, and the tie-break 1-0 (7).

Junior Jessica Baron (Miami, Fla.) captured a win against a Big Ten opponent, when she defeated U of M's Monica Sly, 6-3, 6-2 in consolation play.
"We have a very enthusiastic team this year," said Bauer. "There were a few disappointments from some of the girls, who didn't get as far as they'd like in their draws, but they're eager to work on their games."
In doubles action, Andrews and Bader went 2-3 on the weekend after falling, 8-4, to the Bowling Green duo of A. Jakupcin and Jenna Nussbaum in No. 1 doubles round robin.
In No. 2 doubles round robin, Baron and Kebler remained strong for the Spartans, posting up a 4-1 record on the weekend and an, 8-6, victory over BG's Kelsey Jakupcin and Heidi Romer.
In No. 3-4 doubles action, Milosavljevic and Schnitzer dropped an 8-2 match to Western Michigan's Priyanka Parekh and Reedhina Parekh.
"It was a very positive weekend for us," said Bauer. "Overall, the tournament was beneficial because I was also able to see the areas in which we're going to need to work on. We have a really committed and unified team. "
The Spartans return will take a two-week break before hosting the NCAA Fall Regional in East Lansing on Oct. 20-25.
