NCAA Quarterfinal Quotes - Michigan State vs. Michigan
#19 Veerle Goudswaard.
On the physical play against Michigan: "It was not as physical as last time, so I guess compared to that it wasn't too bad, but it was physical. The officials didn't call too much of it. We didn't get too many corners, we also didn't draw too many. Most of the play was outside of the circle. They (Michigan) were pretty good at keeping it outside the 25-yard line."
On going down 2-0 and playing with their backs against the wall: "I felt that we really closed the hole the end of the second half. We did have a lot more shots right after we scored and it was a boost of intensity. But I felt like the whole end of the second half we were really close, but we just couldn't get the ball in the net."
On the emotion of the game: "I don't have anything against Michigan. It's my first year here, so I'm not into that whole rival thing. Obviously, I feel everyone else's emotion, and know that everyone wants to beat them so bad. I think that the most frustrating thing for me is that I feel that obviously they're a good team - they beat us twice - but I feel like it was so close both games. I feel that we could have done it. And that's the hardest part for me, losing against a team that we could have beat."

On losing on their home field: "I think that it's tough when you play anytime on your home field and don't win. It just makes it that much worse that your season's over."
Head Coach Michele Madison
Opening Statement: "I wish that we could have won it for you. It was a valiant effort from our team. Getting down two goals early to Michigan was trouble. In my mind, the goals were questionable, but I'll review them on the tape and actually at this point it doesn't matter. But I felt that the team came back, scoring one goal and hitting the post on another. If we could have gotten it to go at all, it could have gone our way too, but it didn't. Michigan played a good game today. We played a good game, but they won it, and we are not happy."
On losing with home field advantage: "It's tough. Our only two losses were to those Wolverines, and that's not a fun stat to have, especially with such a great season. We just have to break that somehow and get that monkey off our back."
On the flow of the game: "I thought it was more even this time. I thought that midfield play was a little more even. I thought that scoring opportunities were more even, but they put it in and we didn't."
On the success of this season: "When we look back and think about what a season we've had and what great players we have and what a great senior class this has been, we'll know that we ended up with two championships. The team really started to pull together and rally at the end of the year. I am extremely proud of my team."
