PRINCETON, N.J. - The No. 5 Michigan State field hockey team rolled off its 10th-straight victory, defeating No. 15 Princeton, 2-1, on Sunday, Sept. 29, at the Class of 1952 Stadium in Princeton, N.J. Senior Julia Adams (Vancouver, British Columbia) capped off a four-minute scoring spree with the game-winning tally as the Spartans move to 10-1 on the season.
The game was scoreless until the 57th minute when freshman Michelle Huynh-Ba (Hockessin, Del.) scored an unassisted strike, for her seventh goal of the season. Princeton answered at the 59:21 mark, tying the score at one. Michigan State wasted no time in scoring again, as Sophie Rosmalen (Oss, Netherlands) passed to Adams for the game-winning tally just eleven seconds later.
MSU goalkeeper Christina Kirkaldy (Afton, N.Y.) made six stops on the day, three coming in each half. Princeton outshot the Spartans, 16-11, and also earned the 10-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Michigan State returns to Big Ten action on Friday, Oct. 4, when it travels to Ann Arbor, Mich., to take on No. 2 Michigan. The match between the defending Big Ten champion Spartans and defending national champion Wolverines will take place at 4 p.m., at Phyllis Ocker Field.
