COLUMBUS, Ohio - Two members of the Michigan State field hockey team were named to the All-Big Ten Tournament team at the conclusion of the conference tournament at the North Turf Field in Columbus, Ohio. Sophomore Annebet Beerman (Maarssen, Netherlands) and Christina Kirkaldy (Afton, N.Y.) were named to the All-Tournament Team and shared the honor of the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
Beerman was an offensive power during the three-game stretch, scoring five of the Spartans' nine goals. She tallied one goal in the first game against Indiana and followed it up with a pair of goals against both Penn State and Michigan. Beerman added an assist in the semi-final game to bring her tournament points total to 11.
As instrumental as Beerman was on offense, Kirkaldy was just as crutial to the defense. Kirkaldy allowed just two goals over the three-game tournament, a span of over 208 minutes. She made 12 saves over the weekend and posted two shutouts. The first-year netminder has now posted six shutouts on the season and improved her goals against average to 0.68.
The Spartans will take their program-best 11-game win streak into the NCAA Tournament, which will begin next Saturday (Nov. 16). Tournament pairings and locations will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 8 p.m.
