Field Hockey Drops Overtime Decision To Northwestern

St. Louis, Mo. - The Michigan State field hockey team lost a 2-1 overtime decision to Northwestern on Sept. 2 in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge in St. Louis. With the setback, the Spartans fall to 1-2 on the season. The contest is a non-conference game for both teams.
Northwestern's Lindsey Wright tallied the game-winner just 32 seconds into the extra session. Junior Maureen Halstead put the Spartans on the board first with a goal at the 21:02 mark of the first half. Sophomore Jenny Sanders was credited with the assist.
The Wildcats tied the game late in the second half on a direct corner by Nicole Smith.
Sophomore Mireille Evans made six saves in goal for the Spartans, who had 13 shots in the game to Northwestern's 10.
MSU faces Duke on Sept. 3 at 2 p.m.
