Field Hockey To Host No. 6 Penn State On Friday

East Lansing, Mich. - The 18th-ranked Michigan State field hockey team will host sixth-ranked Penn State this Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in the Duffy Daugherty Football Complex on the campus of MSU. The Spartans (6-3, 0-1) are looking for their first Big Ten win of the season against the Nittany Lions (7-2, 1-0).
Michigan State also plays 19th-ranked Kent State (7-3) at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday in Spartan Stadium.
WEEK IN REVIEW: Michigan State lost its Big Ten opener last weekend to Northwestern, 3-2, in overtime. The loss snapped MSU's five-game winning streak, and it was the second time the Spartans lost to the Wildcats this season.
SCOUTING REPORT:
No. 6 Penn State Nittany Lions (7-3, 1-0)
Penn State is coming off a 1-0 victory over Syracuse on Tuesday. The Lions defeated Iowa, 4-1, in their opening Big Ten contest, and are currently riding a five-game winning streak.
No. 19 Kent State Golden Flashes (7-3, 3-0)
The Spartans and Flashes meet today for the first time since 1997, when the Spartans won 2-1. Kent is led by Arlette Van Cleef (10 goals, 26 points), Kristen Johnson (10 goals, 22 points) and Els Brouwer (7 goals, 11 assists, 25 points). As of Friday, the Flashes were 3-0 in Mid-American Conference action.
