Softball Player Named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week

Park Ridge, Ill. - Michigan State senior Stacey Phillips (St. Clair Shores) has been named the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week for her efforts in leading the Spartans to a pair of victories last week. Phillips, who shares the honor with Jennifer Tripken of Penn State, hit .714 in wins over Eastern Michigan (4-0) and Minnesota (12-11).
She was 4-for-4 against the Gophers, including hitting her Big Ten-leading 11th home run of the season. She also scored four runs in that contest. In the two games, she tallied five hits, scored five runs and had two RBI.
Phillips, who is hitting .383 on the season, is two hits shy of collecting career hit No. 200. She leads the team with 28 RBI and has a .722 slugging percentage.
The Spartans, who are 25-14 overall and 3-2 in the Big Ten, will play four conference games at Old College Field this weekend. MSU will play a doubleheader against Penn State on Friday, April 14 at 2 p.m., and will face Ohio State in single games on Saturday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.).
