Spartan Men Split Tennis Dual Matches

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State would have liked to take two, but one win was a must. The Spartans got their win in an impressive fashion by defeating Valparaiso 7-0. MSU lost its opening dual match to No. 45 Ball State 6-1, on Saturday at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. The split brings the Spartans' overall record to 4-3.
Michigan State picked up the doubles point against Valparaiso by winning two of the three matches. They swept through singles play with only one match going into the third set. Ball State almost did the same thing to MSU by taking two of three doubles matches, but the Spartans were able to salvage one point as Robert Topalo (Prague, Czech Rep.) won at No. 3 singles. Ivica Primorac (Mosthar, Bosnia) and Mark Findling (Livonia, Mich.) were the only Spartans to win two matches. Both co-captains picked up a singles and doubles victory.
Michigan State now takes to the road. The Spartans have seven consecutive dual matches on the road along with the H.E.B. Collegiate Team Championships held in Texas before returning to East Lansing. MSU travels to play Virginia Commonwealth and Virginia next Saturday and Sunday, February 19 and 20.
