Central Michigan Downs Field Hockey In Overtime, 3-2

Mt. Pleasant, Mich. - The No. 16 Michigan State field hockey team lost a heartbreaker to Central Michigan, 3-2 in overtime, Tuesday afternoon at Kelly/Shorts Stadium on the CMU campus. MSU falls to 7-6 on the season, while the Chippewas improve to 7-5.
With the game tied 2-2 going into overtime, CMU freshman Krystal Lee scored just 40 seconds into the extra session to give the Chippewas the 3-2 win.
The Spartans took an early 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Cynthia Martin (Soph., Vancouver, B.C.), her third of the season.
Central Michigan knotted the game at 1-1 when Meg Lewis scored with 13:44 remaining in the second period. Bridget Cooper (Jr., Winnetka, Ill.) broke the tie with two minutes left in the game, scoring her team-leading seventh goal to put MSU up 2-1. However, with only three seconds remaining in the contest, the Chippewas sent the game into overtime on a goal from Tarrah Trottier.
MSU goalie Mireille Evans (Soph., Castlegar, B.C.) posted two saves for the Spartans, while Chippewa goalie Janel Spero made five stops in the win.
Michigan State returns to action Friday, October 13, to host the Iowa Hawkeyes at the Duffy Daugherty Football Building at 7:30 p.m. MSU also hosts Ball State on Sunday, October 15 at 1:00 p.m. in Spartan Stadium.
